An Alcoholic Enrolls In Rehab And Gets Alcohol Detox And Treatment For His Alcoholism

Posted in: Miscellaneous

Donald used to boast to his buddies how he could work at a challenging and full-time job and get smashed almost every night. Unfortunately, after maintaining this destructive lifestyle for around five-and-a-half years, he started to have several alcohol related problems.

As an example, he had a very difficult time getting up for work because he felt so drained when he awoke. Furthermore, most mornings Donald had a terrible hangover. It was apparent that the combination of his hangovers and his lack of energy did not make it easy for him to get up and feel like he wanted to go to work. To make things more difficult, he recently got his third driving under the influence citation in the past three months.

To further compound things, at work his last two performance appraisals were less than satisfactory. And finally, his six-and-a-half-year relationship with his girlfriend had declined due to his financial difficulties, lack of patience, angry outbursts, and his depression.

Though Donald was only twenty-eight years old, he honestly started to look like he was in his early forties. Unfortunately, this is what abusive and unhealthy drinking can do to an individual. And in all honesty he realized that he was suffering from the negative effects of alcohol abuse or alcohol dependency and that he was too young to give up his life to abusive and careless drinking. So at first he tried to drink responsibly and in moderation. Sadly, he soon understood that he lost all control after ingesting his first drink. Due to the fact that this was an event that was repeated over and over again, this distressed him greatly. In fact, he began to wonder if he was displaying some of the stages of alcoholism.

After going over his alcohol drinking problems and his careless and irresponsible drinking with his girlfriend, he finally decided to schedule an appointment to see his physician. When Donald saw his doctor, he frankly stated that he has been drinking in a hazardous manner, that he may be displaying behavior that is typical of the various alcoholism stages, and that he wants to quit drinking. He then declared that drinking in moderation does not seem to work for him and consequently, he wants to learn how he can live an alcohol-free life.

Donald also told his physician about his depression and how this mental health issue was negatively affecting his relationship with his lady friend. His family doctor referred Donald to Doctor Jackson, an alcohol and drug addiction therapist, who influenced Donald to enroll in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility as an in-patient for alcohol detoxification and alcohol rehabilitation. Fortunately, Donald would also be able to get medical treatment for his depression at this treatment facility.

After four months of rigorous rehabilitation, Donald left the in-patient rehab center and continued his recovery via outpatient counseling and via going to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Encouraged to change his life in a more positive direction, Donald joined a fitness center and started working out three or four times per week. Within four months Donald was a new person. He was not depressed anymore, he was in shape, he was eating nutritious meals, and most important of all, he remained sober for numerous months. He also became more patient, he did not resort to angry outbursts, and he became a more caring individual in his relationship with his girlfriend. Stated briefly, abstaining from drinking was the best decision Donald had ever made.
